LATE 2012 MAC MINI POOR VIDEO QUALITY ON 4K TV TRIAL
I found a program called SwitchResX that can do all kinds of video output tricks I may download the trial and see if that could lock the M1 Mini in 3840x2160 mode so that choosing 1920x1080 in scaling makes the M1 Mini scale the content.Īnyone familiar with this program's capabilities? Later today I'll set up the M1 Mini to use this PC's 4K/UHD monitor, and see if the scaling works there, but it won't solve the TV problem. There doesn't appear to be any TV setting to lock it in 4K. Or vice versa, hard to tell which.Īpparently the TV, despite being 4K, thinks it native res is 1920x1080. The problem is that instead of maintaining 3840x2160 resolution and simply scaling up the visible content, selecting 1920x1080 or below causes the TV to set itself to 1920x1080 resolution, and the M1 Mini responds to that by readjusting its resolution. If I don't hold down the Option key when choosing Scaled, I only get resolutions of 1920x1080 and lower, no 3840x2160 or 4096 x 2160. That said, I'd expect 1920 x 1080 to already be in the "short list" for a 3840 x 2160 display.

You could try holding the Option key down when clicking on the Scaled button. However, that does give me an idea I need to look and see if those different "resolutions" will change size without actually changing the TV's resolution from 4K. I see a number of different display resolution choices under "Scaled", but no "Larger Text". I've looked at that "Display" window many times while trying various things. What I'm saying is that those "Larger Text" options simply do not appear when connecting to my Sony 4K TV. You can use the Display settings under System Preferences to make the text larger. Has anyone experienced this and found a real solution? I was going to do a chat with Apple Support, but as far as I can tell that's no longer an option. I'm using that now, but it's a awkward workaround. The replies to a post on an Apple Community forum from a "Catalina" user with the same problem suggest that there is no real solution except a couple of Zoom functions.

Internet searching has shown that many users have a "Larger Text" choice on the "System Preferences", "Display" window, but nothing I've tried has made such a choice appear. The problem is that everything on the screen is too small to be usable. It's attached to a Sony 4K TV with HDMI 2.0 and running "Scaled" at 3840x2160 60Hz. I just received a Mac Mini M1 and want to use it as a living room/HTPC computer. (Apologies for any ignorant questions this is my first modern Mac.)
